Zak Cummings is a Strikeforce vet who compiled a perfect 6-0 amateur record before going pro. A Midwest circuit veteran, Cummings has a very aggressive fighting style and does hold a win over UFC vet Terry Martin.

Cummings' primary base is wrestling, and he comes to the sport having been a two-time NJCAA qualifier for St. Louis Community College-Meramec. A competent MMA wrestler, Cummings' shown good takedowns and proven to be a handful to deal with when he attains top position. He possesses a very aggressive ground and pound game, looking to load up with big, fast punches from top position. He also does a very good job of utilizing his knees and fists from side mount, and his overall top game holds intriguing upside. In past bouts Cummings has been outmuscled by larger middleweights, (see bout with Tim Kennedy) and his guard game is still developing. He's much better from top position, and will need to learn to defend himself better as well as improving his positional game and ability to control his opponent from the bottom. His bout with Tim Kennedy really highlighted the issues in his ground game, as he had his guard passed very easily and couldn't stop (or defend) his opponent from delivering heavy punches repeatedly.

Cummings will engage on his feet where he's equipped with a good chin and effective left hand. He throws a quick hook and left straight, and effectively incorporates high/low kicks into his striking repertoire. Cummings shows promise from in close where he's capable of firing off quick punches and solid knees in the clinch. Still stiff in his movement, Cummings has a tendency to leave his chin exposed when he's defending. Going forward, he will need to continue working on his footwork, head movement and overall defensive abilities.
