ANALYSIS
A Miletich Martial Arts competitor and WEC veteran, Zack Micklewright is a talented fighter currently competing in the lightweight division. Micklewright is a former US Marine who enters the sport with no specific base or martial arts background. After coming back from serving in Iraq, Micklewright embarked on his MMA career compiling a solid amateur record before making the decision to turn pro. He's captured a Glory Fighting Championships title at 155 pounds, and his aggressive, offensive brand of fighting gives reason to be optimistic about his future in the sport.

Micklewright shows a good hip throw as well as a nice double leg takedown. He's an aggressive top position grappler who holds strong potential in his ground and pound abilities. Micklewright maintains good posture and is able to land big, straight punches and nice, effective elbows from inside his opponents guard. Micklewright doesn't come from a grappling base and will need to work on his takedown defense and guard play. He also shows a tendency to over commit from top position, leaving himself susceptible to being swept. A composed competitor, Micklewright does well to keep his cool on the mat but will need to continue working on his BJJ and submissions.

Micklewright takes an aggressive approach to his standup, wasting little time in going after his opponent on the feet. His natural quickness is evident in his striking, and Micklewright does show a lot of promise in his boxing. He's confident letting his hands go, armed with a striking game that can be described as quick, technical, precise and powerful. He's blessed with good reach and hand speed, and has demonstrated the ability to deliver accurate punches from the outside. Micklewright's striking arsenal consists of an excellent straight left, a beautiful lead right hook and good uppercuts. He's capable of putting together crisp, tidy hand combinations while doing a good job of varying his punching (in type and location). Micklewright's also shown impressive finishing power early in his career (see his vicious knockout of Luke Drilling), and a good offensive clinch game. Although he will need to work on his defensive abilities from in close, Micklewright's proven capable of landing nice knees and elbows from the thai clinch, as well as big punches against the fence. While Micklewright does look to assert himself as the aggressor, he's also shown sound counter striking abilities. He uses his reach and footwork to keep away from the mid-range game, and overall possesses tremendous upside in his standup game.
OUTLOOK
Zack Micklewright is an exciting fighter who's shown potential in his striking and ground and pound games. He'll really need to focus on his grappling (wrestling and jiu jitsu), especially since he enters the sport without any solid grappling foundation. The lightweight division is very deep and talented, but with continued work Micklewright has a chance to develop into a top fifteen lightweight.
