ANALYSIS
Yuri Villefort is a very talented welterweight prospect currently training with American Top Team. He first began training in judo and BJJ before moving on to muay thai, and displays very versatile abilities and well rounded MMA potential. A hard working athlete, Villefort has the work ethic to compliment his natural abilities and with continued work has a chance to become a premier fighter in the welterweight division.

Villefort possesses strong, albeit developing technical ground skills and jiu jitsu abilities. He finished third at the 2007 BJJ World Championships, second at the 2008 BJJ World Championships (both times as a blue belt) and does come to the sport with a good jiu jitsu pedigree and very strong grappling potential. Villefort is a patient grappler who displays nice guard passing abilities, the capacity to improve positions and take mount, and possesses a well versed and creative submission game. Villefort works hard on a wrestling game that is developing very nicely - showing good trips and takedowns from in close. Blessed with long limbs, Villefort is able to throw accurate ground strikes from insides his opponents guard which nicely compliment his BJJ abilities. When given the opportunity he's also able to unleash powerful punches, elbows and hammer fists from the top (he actually uses his ground and pound more than his subs) and is definitely capable of putting opponents in danger with both his BJJ and ground and pound abilities. Although he's much more comfortable fighting from the top, Villefort does remain active off his back and shows a good defensive guard game.

A true mixed martial artist, Villefort shows well rounded abilities and the willingness to strike on his feet. He's a muay thai striker who has good footwork, moves around effortlessly, and is very swift and quick on his feet. Villefort is a dangerous striker who's blessed with quick, powerful high kicks, strong leg kicks, very fast hands and a nice overhand right. Athletic, Villefort's very quick and fast and calling him "explosive" would definitely be a fitting description. He's fully capable of exploding with powerful strikes (high kicks, flying knees etc) and did finish Frank Carrillo with a sensational flying knee knockout in just his third professional fight. Villefort is very good from in close where he's able to latch on the thai plum and deliver quick, powerful knees to his opponents head and body and overall displays excellent clinch potential. At times he does get a little wild which is to be expected given his age and experience and he'll need to continue refining his technical skills. Defensively, Villefort has a tendency to get sloppy at times and does leave himself open to be countered and hit. He also slows down considerably as the fight wears on and will need to improve his conditioning and learn to pace himself better.
OUTLOOK
Yuri Villefort shows excellent potential in multiple areas of his game and has the natural talent to develop into an extremely well rounded fighter. He also has a world class group of coaches and great support under him at ATT. Villefort has quite a bit of developing to do but he has the tools at his disposal (natural and otherwise) to flourish and develop into a top ten welterweight.
