An up and coming light heavyweight prospect, Yancy Medeiros has been making waves on the Hawaiian fight scene and currently trains under Doug Amaral and Darren Torres as part of Team Hakuilua. While still very young and relatively green, Medeiros does hold a respectable TKO win over Po'ai Sugunuma and remains undefeated through his first three years in the sport. Medeiros' quick start and outgoing personality has garnered the attention of some of the larger promotions in the sport, and with continued development it should not be long before he finds himself on the big stage. Although he's still very raw, Medeiros displays smooth grappling skills and shows an excellent control and flow to his ground game. He does have a high school background in wrestling and has shown very good takedown defense early in his career, while proving capable of taking the fight to the ground when sees fit. On the ground Medeiros does his best work from top position, where he is quick and moves very well, and shows good transitions and will look to improve his position. Medeiros has a "slick" top control game and is difficult to move, and displays good technical grappling skills and is excellent at maintaining his control from the top and defending against sweeps. Medeiros shifts very well between striking and grappling on the ground, and has a great overall flow to his ground game. He's shown he can deliver a strong ground and pound attack which combined with his rapidly developing technical grappling skills, quick transitions and good ground control has proven suffocating and very difficult for opponents to deal with in the past. A good example of this was in Medeiros' bout with Larry Perreira (see below), whom Medeiros easily controlled on the ground, effortlessly transitioned between positions all the while pounding away with a relentless ground and pound attack until the referee stepped in. A particularly impressive aspect of Medeiros' game has been the composure he's fought with very early in his career. He's difficult to rattle and has not gotten too wild or excited from any position he's been put in which is in stark contrast for most fighters of his age and experience. In his bout with Suganuma, Medeiros was mounted at one point but kept his cool, defended extremely well and was able to weather the storm without taking too much damage. He eventually got the fight back to his feet and pulled off a third round TKO victory over the older and much more experienced fighter who held victories over K-1 HERO's and UFC veterans. Although his background is in wrestling, Medeiros is not strictly a wrestler who looks just to get the fight to the ground. He likes to "stand and bang" and shows the potential to develop into a well rounded fighter with a promising striking game. Technically he is still green on his feet but he shows the awareness to mix up his striking well, alternating his punches and kicks and working both the head and body of his opponent. Medeiros has very good leg kicks and shows promise with his clinch game, as he consistently lands very sharp knees to the body from in close and when clinched up. Medeiros does well to keep his hand up, doesn't get involved in "brawling", picks his spots and fights with composure at all times. Medeiros definitely doesn't shy away from the standup and he has shown that he does possess heavy hands, good punching power and the ability to end fights suddenly and very impressively (see bout with Rigoberto Mendoza).
