ANALYSIS
William Romero is Bellator FC veteran currently fighting in the featherweight division. A former member of the Canadian Military, Romero credits that time spent for giving him the discipline, inspiration and drive needed to be an MMA fighter. Romero is a good athlete who possesses good intangibles (cardio, work ethic, mental fortitude) to compliment the natural talents in his MMA toolbox.

Romero's primary weapon in his MMA arsenal is certainly his standup game. He's a muay thai striker with a professional background who definitely makes a calculated effort to keep his fights on his feet. Romero's light on his feet, uses his reach and jab well and is a good athlete who's blessed with fast hands, respectable power and a solid chin. Well rounded in his striking abilities, Romero possesses a powerful right hand and makes good use of high kicks and powerful leg kicks. For a featherweight, Romero does hold impressive knockout potential in his striking and he's shown the ability to finish quickly, and finish spectacularly (see bout with Guillaume Lamarche below). An intelligent fighter, Romero displays strong counter striking abilities, and the intellect and composure to not give in to "brawling" with less skilled strikers. At times he does have a habit of dropping his hands when he throws kicks or punches and in the past he has been tagged and countered. He'll need to tweak his defensive skills but overall he does possess a sharp, polished and very capable MMA striking game.

In contrast to his standup skills, Romero is still very green on the ground. While he does use his strikes (including nice elbows, hammer fists and punches) well from the top, he doesn't look to improve positionally and his inexperience on the mat has led to him fending off submission attempts from the top. His takedowns however are pretty good in spite of his greenness in the grappling department but going forward Romero will need to continue improving his takedown defense and overall wrestling. Fighting off his back, Romero doesn't offer much offensively and will look to hang on and get the fight back standing. He can be controlled on the ground and will need to do a better job of containing his opponents' from the top as he does eat punches and is susceptible to a strong ground and pound attack. Having said all that, Romero is a perceptive fighter who recognizes he's primarily a striker and he's made a conscious effort to try and round out his game.
OUTLOOK
Will Romero is a capable muay thai striker who'll need to continue putting work into his wrestling, BJJ, guard skills and overall ground game. Although Romero's far from a sure thing, he is an intelligent, hardworking athlete who through continued work has a chance to develop into a top twenty featherweight.
