ANALYSIS
Naturally speaking, Vinicius Quieroz is blessed with a massive height and reach advantage over much of the division (6’7” tall with an 80 inch reach). He shows good quickness and agility on his feet, where he’s proven to be dangerous striker with finishing power. An aggressive, prototypical Chute Boxe fighter, Quieroz throws big hooks and heavy leg kicks. He possesses good hand speed, knockout power and aggressive counter punching abilities. Quieroz throws a big overhand right from the outside, powerful knees from in close, and works a nice jab-cross combination routinely. Quieroz has a fantastic killer instinct, and will immediately look for the kill when he senses his opponent’s in danger. On occasion, Quieroz will get caught with counters and needs to tighten up his defensive abilities. Although he is blessed with a good chin, Quieroz tends to exert a lot of energy early in his bouts and isn’t equipped with the cardio to push a fast paced, three or five round fight.

Quieroz arrives with good credentials and a solid wrestling base when it comes to grappling. A Brazilian National Wrestling Champion in 2001, Quieroz employs a variety of trips and takedowns to take the fight to the ground. His takedown defense is solid, and Quieroz will look to capitalize on grappling opportunities as they arise. Showing good control from the top, Quieroz stays tight to his opponent and works his guard passing. He’s particularly fond of working from half guard where he can pin his opponent’s leg down and work his ground and pound abilities. Quieroz is capable of posturing up and using his long frame to deliver a heavy ground and pound assault to the head and body. When submission/positional opportunities present themselves, Quieroz shows the awareness to try and take advantage of them without strictly adhering to his ground and pound game. When he signed with the UFC in mid-2010, Quieroz held a BJJ brown belt under Fabricio Werdum and was still improving. He’s a solid jiu jitsu player who displays comprehension in his positions, submission game and technical aptitude.
OUTLOOK
Vinicius Quieroz is armed with a solid set of tools to compete in the heavyweight division. He’s an accomplished amateur wrestler, soon to be black belt BJJ player, and an aggressive, heavy handed Chute Boxe striker. In a division thin on top shelf talent, Quieroz is potentially a top fifteen player at heavyweight.
