Ulysses Gomez is Team Cobra Kai prospect competing for Bellator FC. A natural flyweight, Gomez moved up to 135 pounds when he was offered a spot in Bellator’s first ever Bantamweight Tournament. Gomez comes from an athletic family, with his brother having played for the United States National Soccer Team. No slouch himself, Ulysses shows good speed and strength to his game and was a Nevada State Champion power lifter while in high school. A Palace Fighting Championships and Tachi Palace Fights veteran, Gomez holds intriguing upside in both the bantamweight and flyweight divisions.

Gomez is known primarily for his grappling and enters the sport with backgrounds in BJJ and pankration. He’s a respected submission grappler who began training under Marc Laimon while in high school, and has solid credentials including three NAGA Championships. Additionally, Gomez is also a very accomplished pankration practitioner, having captured a Gold Medal at the 2007 FILA Pankration World Championships. Gomez’s background positively impacts his grappling game, as he shows good body lock takedowns and trips from in close. Gomez controls his opponent well from the top, staying tight to his opponent and working hard to pass. He possesses a competent ground and pound game and can let his hands go rapidly from the top. A well rounded grappler, Gomez shows good half guard sweeps and strong submission abilities from top position as well as off his back.

Gomez’s quickness is prevalent in his striking as he showcases good hand speed when standing. He works diligently in trying to land his jab-cross combination and mixes kicks into his striking arsenal. Gomez shows composure on his feet, checking leg kicks and displaying nice dirty boxing skills from in close.
