ANALYSIS
Part of the Throwdown Fight Team, Ty Lee is a promising heavyweight prospect who has been making waves on the Utah fight scene. A solid athlete, Lee is a former Arena League Football player who's won his first seven pro fights including victories over Dave Anderton (the only man to pin Brock Lesnar during his collegiate wrestling career) and veteran Ruben Villareal. Although he isn't a large, muscular "new age" heavyweight, Lee is tough, possesses a good work ethic and does have promising potential in his MMA game.
Extremely aggressive and always moving forward on his feet, Lee is constantly throwing punches as he stalks his opponents around the cage, giving them no room to manoeuvre or set anything up. He's not afraid to stand toe to toe and let his fists fly, and he does come equipped with heavy hands and a rock solid chin. Lee throws lots of haymakers and power punches without worrying too much about his defense - keeping his chin up, hands downs and showing no head movement whatsoever. He also displays good dirty boxing skills, making effective use of his punches from the clinch and short range. Lee doesn't throw many kicks, will get wild on his feet and could accurately be described as a brawler early in his career. He has displayed some good qualities in his striking, but Lee will need to continue working on his technique and defensive standup skills going forward in his career.
Although his pure abilities don't rank near the top wrestlers in the division, Lee does come from a wrestling background and he definitely likes to use it. His takedowns come almost entirely from the clinch area where he possesses good upper body takedowns, throws and overall Greco-Roman skills. On the mat Lee displays tremendous aggressiveness in getting at his opponents with a relentless ground and pound game. His ground game revolves heavily around his ground striking, as he unloads heavy punches and elbows from side control, mount and inside his opponents guard. Lee has shown growing submission awareness throughout his career - dropping back for leg locks and looking for chokes from mount and back control but he's a ground and pounder whose first preference is to unload with punches from the top. Moving up the heavyweight ladder Lee will find himself in situations where he won't be the best wrestlers and will need to fight off his back, and will need to continue working on his BJJ, guard and submission skills.

OUTLOOK
An aggressive ground and pounder with heavy hands and the willingness to bang it out on his feet, Lee has an exciting fighting style that has served him well in his early career. He'll need to continue refining his MMA game while paying special attention to his jiu jitsu and technical skills, but with the right camp Lee has a chance to develop into a competent top twenty five heavyweight.
