ANALYSIS
Tristan Johnson is a talented Nova Scotian currently training alongside UFC veteran T.J. Grant at Fit Plus Martial Arts. Johnson is a very tough fighter who dislocated his arm in the opening minute of his bout against Brad Duguay, but wound up winning via second round TKO. Primarily a striker, Johnson entered mixed martial arts with a professional boxing background and is certainly most dangerous when the fight is kept on the feet. A tall, long featherweight, Johnson makes good use of his reach and is very confident in his hands. His striking arsenal consists of good, fast hands and a nice left hook, and he's shown the ability to effectively put together quick hand combinations on his feet. Johnson doesn't just target his opponents' head with his punching as he can dig into the body with nice body shots. From in close Johnson can deliver nice knees from the clinch and he is a very aggressive standup fighter who stalks his opponents down on the feet. There are times when he'll try to force the issue and in the process get caught up in trying to land the big power punch and he'll need to continue working on his defense, but overall Johnson is a promising striker whose shows good potential in his standup game.

Johnson first priority is to keep the fight standing and to achieve that he's continued work on his sprawl, takedown defense and overall wrestling game. He's still very raw and uncomfortable on the mat, and will need to continue working on his BJJ, submission abilities and overall technical ground skills. There's even been times in past bouts where Johnson had his opponent's back secured and/or mounted, and he's chosen to stand up and get the fight back on the feet. In this day and age its imperative a fighter be as versatile as possible, and therefore Johnson will need to continue working on his grappling and ground games.
OUTLOOK
Tristan Johnson's shown promise in his striking and will need to continue working towards improving his wrestling, BJJ and submission skills. He's a good athlete who's had a successful start to his MMA career, and while there's certainly areas of his game that need to be improved, Johnson does have top twenty potential at featherweight.
