Travis Browne had won his first nine pro fights, earned a reputation for his size and hard hitting style, and signed a multi-fight UFC contract less than one year into his pro MMA career. Although he doesn't come from any particular background, Browne has gained a reputation for his striking early while also showing promise in his wrestling and ground game. A towering heavyweight prospect, Browne - at 6'7" and 260 pounds possesses definite heavyweight size and currently trains alongside UFC vets Joey Beltran, Brandon Vera and Phil Davis at the Alliance Training Center.

Browne's raw power is very evident throughout his game including his takedowns. He's effortlessly able to pick opponents up and toss them about (see bout with Aaron Brink), and capable of muscling opponents to the mat using his brute strength. Browne also shows intelligence in taking the fight to the ground when it's to his benefit, and given time to polish off his technique has the potential to develop into a competent MMA wrestler. Like his wrestling, Browne's ground and pound game is a little green although he does hit incredibly hard from top position. Still early into his MMA career, Browne began his BJJ training just months prior to taking his first pro fight and will need to continue working on his ground skills. Although he has a long way to go, Browne has shown promise - displaying good submission awareness and a fairly active submission game fighting off his back. Those qualities bode very well for his overall development, and indicate Browne is trying to progress his game beyond relying solely on his natural power. By the same token there have also been times when he's been controlled on the ground, and he'll need to continue working on his guard, BJJ and overall conditioning.

Early in his career Browne has earned the reputation of being a hard hitting striker and does come equipped with very heavy hands, good hand speed, and a nice right cross and left hook to compliment his tremendous knockout power on his feet. Browne is an aggressive fighter who moves well and is fairly agile for a man his size. He really likes pushing the pace on his feet and of the first nine wins in his career - five have occurred within the first minute of the opening round. Browne can also deliver powerful kicks to the head and body of his opponents, although his kicking ability is still green and he'll need to continue working on his technique. He's also displayed excellent clinch potential - delivering quick, brutal knees to the head and body of opponents' from in close (see bouts with Calderon and Clark below.) Defensively, Browne does have a tendency to drop his hands when throwing punches and he'll need to continue developing his technical striking game.
