ANALYSIS
Tim Williams had a 6-0 amateur record before turning pro, and going on to capture the Locked in the Cage Middleweight Championship. Early on he's shown plenty of courage and commitment in overcoming two serious career threatening injuries. First, he survived a near fatal car accident which left him with several permanent scars on his face. Later, he was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm and his promising career was thought to be finished. Williams eventually overcame both issues, committed himself to his training and has really started to flourish as a fighter.

Williams has worked diligently on his wrestling, and has shown competent takedowns from in close. He wouldn't be considered a top middleweight wrestler however, and will need to continue working on his takedown defense and overall wrestling game. Williams comes from a jiu jitsu base and has shown comfort fighting off his back. He looks to finish, and is willing to pull guard to try and secure a submission. Although his ground game has shown promise, Williams' positional guard game will need to be improved. He's had his guard passed and been mounted, and certainly isn't an elite BJJ stylist upon entering the sport. Williams will need to get better at controlling his opponent from the bottom, and getting accustomed to dealing with strikes off his back. Having said that, Williams is still early into his BJJ training and has shown he's picking up the jiu jitsu game at a quick rate. Among his early accomplishments, Williams was a Men's GI Purple Belt Cruiser Weight 2nd Place winner, and a NAGA Worlds Division: GI Purple Belt Cruiser Weight 3rd Place winner in 2008 (for a full list check out http://www.myspace.com/timwilliamsmma).

Williams has been working diligently on his boxing and striking game overall. He delivers quick leg kicks, works his jab, and tries his best to keep as technical as possible. He's also proven to be a willing combatant on his feet, as he doesn't shy away from the standup and will push forward and engage with his opponent. Williams' attitude and approach is commendable, but he's still green and will need to work on his technique. He keeps his head straight up, doesn't utilize much head movement and does have some tightening up to do defensively. As the pace picks up, Williams' technique tends to become a little unravelled, and he will need to continue focusing on all areas of his striking.
OUTLOOK
Tim Williams has shown he has a huge heart in coming back from adversity to enjoy a successful start to his MMA career. He's made progress throughout his game, particularly on the ground where his jiu jitsu abilities have continued to evolve. Although he remains green and far from a finished product, Williams is young and hungry, and with continued work he does have top twenty potential at middleweight.
