ANALYSIS
Standing 6'4" tall and weighing in at 265 pounds, Tim Hague is a massive heavyweight prospect currently training out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Before he began his mixed martial arts training Hague was an avid power lifter who set various records while in university, and thus possesses intriguing potential given his size - strength combination. Not surprisingly he's relied heavily on that size and strength in his early career, where he's become accustomed to being able to overwhelm and physically impose his will on his opponents. After making his mark on the Canadian fight circuit which included capturing the King of the Cage Canada Heavyweight Championship, Hague signed a contract with the UFC in the spring of 2009 where he currently competes.

On his feet Tim Hague is a very aggressive fighter that charges right in at his opponents, pushing the pace and looking to exchange. There's not much finesse to his standup as Hague looks to throw big, heavy punches and does possess significant punching power if he can connect clean (see bout with Jared Kilkenny). Hague has actually hurt opponents very badly with punches thrown from the ground while he was being mounted and he certainly has legitimate power for a heavyweight. His raw power is also apparent in the clinch where Hague throws very heavy knees and punches that can cause significant damage in a short period of time- although his overall technique still requires work. On the flipside, while there's no doubting his heavy hands and willingness to engage, at times his punches do tend to get wide and sloppy and he has a tendency to drop his hands when throwing punches, leaving himself open significantly to counters. Those tendencies played an important role in his loss against Todd Duffee, who countered a very sloppy hook with a quick left hand eventually knocking Hague out just seven seconds into the bout. Hague was also being picked apart on the feet by Pat Barry, who in Hague's defense is a K-1 calibre kickboxer, and will need to make a concerted effort to refine his technical striking and defensive skills on his feet. Hague will also need to work on his cardio and conditioning as he does tend to slow significantly the longer the fight goes on (see bouts with Pendergarst and Petkovic), but he is a very hard worker who displays tremendous heart and forces his opponents to take the fight to him as he never shows any quit.

Hague has shown that he has the ability to get the fight to the ground with good takedowns, but is used to relying heavily on his brute strength to help him muscle, drag, slam and toss his opponents to the mat when he decides to. Facing fighters in the upper echelons of the weight division that are just as big and powerful with stronger wrestling credentials, he will not be afforded the same luxury and must continue working on his technical wrestling abilities. On the ground Hague is very active from top position as he has proven capable of posturing up and delivering a powerful ground and pound attack - throwing extremely heavy punches and elbows which cause considerable damage when they are able to land. While his striking skills on the ground are still unrefined, it does show excellent potential with more experience and improved takedowns. To compliment his power game on the ground Hague also possesses a developing BJJ game and currently holds a blue belt under respected jiu jitsu practitioner, Rodrigo Munduruca. Hague shows good submission awareness in actively looking for subs, and has also displayed the wherewithal to take advantage of those opportunities when they should arise (see bout with Barry). Hague will also need to make significant strides in improving his guard skills as he is much more comfortable operating from top position on the ground, but his grappling skills are still very much a work in progress and he remains far from a finished product.
OUTLOOK
Tim Hague is still very raw but possesses an intriguing set of natural tools and legitimate size and strength for the heavyweight division. He does tend to get sloppy and will need to put considerable work into refining his overall technique, however just three years into his pro career and competing in a division very thin on top level talent he does have a chance to develop into a top fifteen heavyweight.
