Shamil Zavurov is a Rus Fighters Sport Club competitor and veteran of M-1 Global. A strong sambo practitioner, Zavurov comes to the sport as a three-time Combat Sambo World Champion and two-time Combat Fighting Champion of the CIS Republics.

Zavurov enters MMA as an experienced wrestler who also has a decorated Combat Sambo background. Compact and strong, Zavurov’s armed with a very good MMA wrestling game showing the ability to land strong takedowns including a power double leg. He’s also demonstrated good trips from the clinch and solid takedown defense, giving reason to be excited about his abilities as a takedown grappler. On the mat, Zavurov aggressively pushes to pass guard in addition to showing the ability to posture up and fire off big punches from the top. He also possesses good awareness and competent technical skills in his submissions, having shown the capability to take advantage of those opportunities when they present themselves. Zavurov does tend to rely on his physical strength at times and is certainly most comfortable fighting from top position. He’ll need to focus on his technical skills and guard game as he progresses in his career.

Zavurov has learned to strike with more composure as his career has moved forward. While still capable of opening up and aggressively pursuing opponents, Zavurov’s also learned to fight more intelligently and will look to counter when the situation dictates. A naturally hard hitting welterweight, Zavurov is capable of finishing his opponents with his striking. His striking arsenal consists of a big left hook, a nice counter right cross and overhand right, and very heavy leg kicks. Shamil throws powerful knees in the clinch and does a good job of mixing up his punching with the occasional low kick. At times Zavurov will get caught in the moment and begin getting wild with his striking, and will still need to work on covering up better as he lets his hands go.
