Sevak Magakian is a TUF 12 veteran training out of the Hayastan Studio. Although he was born in Armenia, Magakian was raised in the United States where he developed into a powerful athlete with a strong judoka base prior to pursing a career in fighting.

Magakian is a prototypical Armenian grappler who comes from a judo background. He first began studying judo and sambo at the age of five, and had earned his black belts in both by the age of eleven. At the age of twenty two he won two California State Judo Championship titles before turning his attention to mixed martial arts. Physically, Magakian is a well built lightweight who possesses explosive natural strength. He’s a bully in the cage, who likes keeping his opponent on the defensive by playing the role of aggressor. If however the tables are turned, he’s not as effective and has appeared uncomfortable fighting off his back. Magakian possesses powerful takedowns that include a good double leg, in addition to his repertoire of trips and judo throws from in close. He shows good control and patience from the top, although he’s capable of posturing up and raining in big, heavy strikes on occasion. An aggressive submission grappler, Magakian looks to attack opposing limbs (arms, legs), and necks from the top. Although he does find himself on the defensive end of submission attempts occasionally, Magakian demonstrates competent defensive submission skills. Standing, although Magakian will let his hands go, it’s usually in an attempt to set up a takedown. Magakian is still stiff on his feet and will need to continue working on his standup game.
