ANALYSIS
Scott Barrett is a heavyweight prospect and veteran of Bellator FC. An athletic fighter, Barrett was a football lineman who also ran track in high school, and he enjoyed a solid career as a collegiate wrestler. Early in his career Barrett's earned the reputation of being a tough fighter who shows a lot of heart .He nearly went blind in 2008 after taking a punch in the eye, but after having his retina re-attached via corrective surgery, he eventually resumed his fighting career.
Barrett comes to MMA after a successful run as a collegiate wrestler. Starting his career during his junior year in college, Barrett would go on to win the Georgia Games as a senior earning himself an NCAA Division I scholarship to the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Shortly thereafter he transferred over to Carson-Newman College (Division II), where he would wrestle for the remaining four years of his collegiate career. Although Barrett isn't known for being an explosive wrestler, he does work very hard, comes from a good base and is relentless in his attempts. Barrett is a powerful heavyweight who's shown he can get the fight to the ground with big slams and suplexes from in close. He controls his opponent well from the top where he makes a real effort to try and improve his position. Barrett passes guard effectively, moves well on the top, and smoothly transitions between side control, guard, back and mount. He shows good submission defense and does well to stay out of trouble from the top while constantly working his ground and pound game. Although Barrett's standup is green, he does recognize this and has continued to work on his striking with K-1 veteran Kelly Deo. Going forward Barrett will need to pay attention to his guard, BJJ, and technical striking games as those will surely play pivotal roles in his future accomplishments in the sport.

OUTLOOK
Scott Barrett is a powerful athlete with a good wrestling base who's shown a lot of heart early in his career. He's quite unproven, and will need to work on his technical skills and BJJ game, but with more time, training and experience he has a chance to develop into a top twenty heavyweight.
