Saul Almeida is a talented up and coming fighter currently competing at lightweight. Born in Brazil, Almeida moved to the Boston area at the age of eight where he studied various disciplines including karate, wrestling, BJJ and boxing. Turning pro at the age of eighteen, Almeida has had a very successful start to his MMA career including winning a Bellator FC tryout in May 2010.

Almeida does have striking backgrounds, beginning first with karate before moving on to boxing and muay thai. At 6'1" tall, Almeida is blessed with tremendous reach for the lightweight division. He's an aggressive striker who showcases very good footwork and is extremely comfortable and quick when the fight is kept standing. While Almeida isn't known for his punching power, he does show intelligence in utilizing his reach from the outside. He's also confident enough to incorporate flying knees and spinning back fists into his arsenal with little difficulty and a high degree of effectiveness. Almeida also shows potential in his offensive clinch game, and while he has much to prove the talent is there for him to develop into a strong lightweight striker.

Almeida enjoyed a successful wrestling career at Framingham High School before expanding his grappling training to include Brazilian Jiu Jitsu upon graduating. Although Almeida does have that background in wrestling, he is a very thin, lanky lightweight who has been outmuscled and taken to the mat early in his fighting career. He will need to get stronger and work on his defensive wrestling and sprawl. On the mat Almeida has proven to be a crafty grappler who makes use of his long limbs nicely. He will look to work a high/rubber guard and actively looks to attack fighting off his back. Difficult to control, Almeida's BJJ game is developing at a steady rate and he's shown slick sweeps and strong submission skills on the ground. Almeida also uses his ground and pound well from the top, particularly to get into his opponents guard and/or work his passes.
