ANALYSIS
Ryan LaFlare is a Ring of Combat Champion and intriguing prospect in the welterweight division. A good athlete, Ryan LaFlare was a standout collegiate lacrosse player during his time at Farmingdale State College. Although his martial arts background isn't as extensive as many of his peers, LaFlare does hold a knockout win over WEC veteran (and Kurt Pellegrino protege) Justin Haskins, and he's shown promising development throughout his game.
At 6'1" tall, LaFlare is a long, lean welterweight striker. He's blessed with a long wingspan, and does look to use his reach intelligently from the outside. LaFlare doesn't shy away from the standup, as he's an aggressive striker who will trade leather with his opponents on the feet. As a southpaw LaFlare's shown good power in his left hand and has shown the ability to throw a nice straight left. He's also displayed a good left high kick and the capacity to uses his knees effectively from in close. LaFlare has shown progression and diversity in his standup game, and with continued focus and training at the Bellmore Kickboxing Academy he should continue developing into at least a competitive welterweight striker.
Although his athletic background is that of a lacrosse player, LaFlare has shown encouraging potential in a wrestling game that is continuously improving. LaFlare is armed with a very quick shot, and is capable of taking his opponents to the mat with nice takedowns and trips (outside/inside leg trips) from in close. Physically, while LaFlare might possess a long, wiry 170 pound frame, he has proven deceptively strong. He's fully capable of taking driving opponents into the mat with powerful takedowns consisting of big slams and suplexes. A cerebral fighter, LaFlare will intelligently use his striking in setting up his takedown attempts. On the mat, LaFlare possesses a very smooth ground game. He shows good agility and moves around very well from the top. LaFlare utilizes an effective ground and pound game - showing aggressive striking from top position. He's capable of letting loose with big punches and very nice knees, although at times he'll get a little carried away and over commit himself. LaFlare looks to pass from the top, possesses the ability to alternate very nicely between side control, mount and back, and shows an active guard and smooth transitioning between his submissions. Technically, although LaFlare's ground skills have shown potential there's plenty of room for improvement and he'd be well served by continuing to work on his jiu jitsu and guard games. Nevertheless, LaFlare's submission, ground and pound, wrestling and jiu jitsu abilities have meshed together very nicely early in his career and he's displayed exciting progression in his grappling game.

His development has been impressive, his attitude excellent, and the natural talent and athleticism he shows will only serve to help him going forward. Still raw, LaFlare still has a lot to prove and much work to put in, but he does have top fifteen potential at welterweight.
