Ryan Couture is amongst MMA royalty, coming from excellent bloodlines as the son of UFC Hall of Fame legend Randy Couture. Although he did wrestle in high school, Couture was known more for his academics in college where he majored in mathematics. While working as a banker Couture contemplated a career change, which ultimately led to his decision to try his hand at mixed martial arts.

Couture has a wrestling background from his high school days in Washington at Woodinville High School. He's a competent wrestler who shows good takedowns and a good sprawl. Training out of a top camp, Couture shows excellent awareness on the mat. He shows a good positional understanding and utilizes an effective, active punching attack from top position. Couture is quite comfortable fighting off his back where he's displayed quick hips, improving technical proficiency and an attentive submission game. On occasion, Couture has struggled against strong jiu jitsu players and he will need to continue making strides in that department. He has shown excellent conditioning however and has many of the sport's top coaches and training partners at this disposal as he continues to try and improve his MMA grappling game.

Couture is a collected striker who keeps his cool standing. He works his jab nicely and uses his footwork to try and keep the fight on the outside where he can best utilize his reach. Couture is an intelligent striker who uses his leg kicks and looks to counter punch. Although he doesn't feature much power in his striking attack, Couture is able to put together quick, tidy combinations working the head, legs and body of his opponents. A technical striker, Couture displays good defensive awareness, granted he will drop his hands at times. He incorporates good movement into his striking (head and foot) and will look to get in and out while scoring with his punching.
