ANALYSIS
Growing up in the rough neighbourhoods of East St. Louis, Rob Washington is a talented lightweight prospect fighting out of Guam. Washington is a very hardworking fighter who enters the sport with a base in wrestling. After making the decision to compete in mixed martial arts, he's quickly taken a liking to his muay thai and boxing training and has the potential to develop into a versatile lightweight fighter.

Washington wrestled successfully throughout high school and although he received scholarships to several NAIA schools, he eventually decided to forego college and joined the US Military. While stationed in Guam with the Navy, Washington's competitive desires resurfaced as he began training with the Guam National Wrestling Team. He would go on to make the US Navy team for three consecutive years before changing course, and turning his attention to mixed martial arts. Physically gifted, Washington is a strong grappler who's capable of bullying opponents around the cage. His wrestling experience plays a pivotal role in shaping his game, as Washington looks to go to the mat and work from top position. Washington possesses a solid MMA wrestling game, showing the ability to take his opponents' to the ground in a variety of ways. He's armed with effective single and double leg takedowns, good inside and outside leg trips, as well as nice high crotch takedowns and slams. Washington is an aggressive ground and pounder who looks to land big right hands on the ground, and nice knees from side mount. He controls his opponent effectively on the mat, and will attempt to pass guard and take advantage of positional opportunities. Washington's grappling game is heavily wrestling-oriented, and he will need to work on his guard, submission, and jiu jitsu skills.

While still developing, Washington holds upside in his standup game. He's capable of delivering quick leg kicks and shows excellent potential in his hands. Washington throws an impressive right cross, fights with composure standing, and is equipped with good natural punching power. Additionally, he's demonstrated promising counter punching abilities and the wherewithal to use his striking to set up takedown attempts. Washington is still green and will need to continue working on his footwork, movement and technical skills, but his standup is developing at an encouraging rate.
