ANALYSIS
A Rage in the Cage standout, Richard Hale is a light heavyweight prospect quickly making his mark on the Arizona fight scene. Hale walks around at 220 pounds, and has successfully moved up and down between divisions capturing the Rage in the Cage Light Heavyweight, Heavyweight and Super Heavyweight Championships in the process. While he is green, Hale is armed with the size and physical tools to develop into an impact fighter at some point in his career.

Hale comes from a striking background, having studied kung fu, karate and boxing prior to beginning his MMA career. For a big man Hale displays good footwork as he's very light and agile on his feet. He demonstrates impressive composure standing, taking a very technical and intelligent approach to his striking game. Hale does look to take advantage of his reach, preferring to stay outside and work his striking. He throws excellent leg kicks (see bout with Zanski), powerful high kicks and work his jab and straight right nicely. Hale also demonstrates increasing proficiency in his counter striking abilities, and does a really nice job of mixing up his standup and keeping his opponents honest. Although he is capable of knocking his opponent out, on occasion Hale will sacrifice some of that power in order to keep his striking combinations as neat and tidy as possible. While Hale's technical striking game is developing nicely, he still has a tendency to leave his chin exposed and will need shore up his defensive and overall striking game.

Hale did wrestle throughout high school and shows upside in his MMA wrestling game. His takedown defense is solid and the raw power he possesses is prevalent in his takedowns in throws. On the mat, Hale's armed with impressive ground and pound capabilities while also showing good awareness in his BJJ and submission game. He makes smooth transitions, understands the importance of positioning (see bout with Adam Padilla) and will look, as well as finish with his submissions. Hale will also work for sweeps and subs off his back, although his technical guard game still has work to do. Hale's ground game is developing at a steady rate and should continue doing so given his age and natural talent level.
OUTLOOK
While Richard Hale is still maturing and developing his game, he's shown well rounded ability and steady progression early in his career. Hale will need to continue training and getting experience under his belt, but he does have a chance at becoming a top ten fighter in the division.
