ANALYSIS
A King of the Cage Welterweight Champion, Quinn Mulhern is a talented BJJ stylist currently coaching and training out of Santa Fe Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In his early career he's garnered considerable attention for his ground skills, and does hold a one-sided 2010 TKO victory over UFC veteran Rich Clementi. A two-time silver medalist at the 2009 Pan-American games (in the purple belt division), Mulhern is a talented MMA grappler who holds intriguing potential in the welterweight division.

Primarily a grappler, Mulhern possesses an extremely proficient jiu jitsu game on the mat which has served as his bread and butter early in his career. Mulhern is very confident in his ground skills, incredibly dangerous fighting off his back, and does not hesitate in attempting to pull guard to try and take the fight to the ground. Blessed with long legs, excellent flexibility and a very good technical understanding of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Mulhern opens up his guard and works the rubber guard and butterfly guard beautifully. A 6'3" welterweight, Mulhern is effective at tying up his opponents' with his long legs while he constantly works for sweeps and submissions. A strong submission grappler, Mulhern's equipped with the technical aptitude and physical attributes to quickly and frequently, find and secure submission attempts when operating off his back. He's particularly dangerous with triangle and armbar attempts, and does have an omoplata win on his record. Mulhern also displays sound defensive submission abilities, an unorthodox but effective arsenal of sweeps (see bout with Clementi), and overall possesses a guard that is very diverse and extremely effective in MMA competition. From top position, Mulhern shows excellent transitions, and almost effortless guard passing abilities. He will work his ground and pound to open up submission opportunities, and his overall ground game is technically sound and very unique. Not a strong wrestler, Mulhern will need to continue working on his takedowns and wrestling abilities, especially since he's proven so lethal on the ground.

Mulhern's striking is still a work in progress although he has been working diligently on his standup game. He has excellent reach, and a nice jab but hasn't shown much punching or finishing power on his feet. Due to the fact that his wrestling and standup games are still developing, opponents have felt confident at aggressively going after him when striking. He'll need to get better at using his reach and jab to keep opponents' from getting inside his range, while continuing to work on his defensive abilities, head movement and counter striking game.
OUTLOOK
Quinn Mulhern possesses a very slick, dynamic ground game that has served him incredibly well in his career's early going. His wrestling abilities are still green and his standup is still raw, but Mulhern brings a very unique set of skills to the table. He'll need to continue developing his wrestling and striking abilities, but Mulhern possesses considerable top ten promise in the welterweight division.
