Paul Sass is a very talented English lightweight prospect currently training out of Liverpool, England as part of the Next Generation MMA team. Sass began fighting at the age of eighteen and has progressed at a very rapid pace in his early career where he's become noted for his grappling abilities and crafty submission game.

Sass has been at his best when he's able to get the fight to the ground where he can put his ground game to good use. A BJJ purple belt, Sass is extremely fluid on the ground, effortlessly transitioning from one position to the next. Sass has also garnered a lot of attention due to his submission abilities, and he is definitely a legitimate threat to finish the fight on the ground. His long limbs make him especially dangerous fighting off his back, and he amazingly finished the first ten opponents in his career (seven pro, three amateur) all by triangle choke. One of the most impressive aspects to Sass' jiu jitsu game is his ability to stay calm and composed on the ground and have the presence of mind to pull off submissions even when under pressure. Like many European fighters, Sass' wrestling abilities and takedowns were a huge question mark when his career began and the level he can get them to will have a major impact on how effectively his overall grappling game will translate at the higher levels of the sport. Very encouraging and not surprising given his age, but Sass' takedowns have improved immensely as he's moved forward in his career. His wrestling has gotten much more refined and he's gotten tremendously better at setting up his takedown attempts (see bouts with Harra, Sinclair). The differences are very obvious when watching his fights chronologically (observe the difference in the takedowns from his bout with David Johnson to his fight against Harvey Harra), and his overall grappling, ground, and submission games are developing quite nicely. A long rangy lightweight, Sass has also displayed steady improvements in his striking game in his career where he is light on his feet, makes effective use of leg kicks, and uses his range well. Still definitely more of a grappler then a striker, he will need to continue to make those improvements in his standup game, in addition to continuing to develop his grappling and wrestling skills in order to become a complete mixed martial artist. To help achieve that Sass has spent time training under renowned trainer Greg Jackson in the past, whose experience and knowledge could do wonders for Sass' career going forward.
