Pat Schilling’s paved his way to the sport through his background in wrestling. After a successful stint as a high school wrestler in Minnesota (131-34 record), Schilling made his way to NCAA Division II program Moorhead State University before trying his hand at mixed martial arts. That experience is prevalent in the diversity he’s shown in his takedown attempts and his strong positional instincts from the top. Though continued attention needs to be paid to his BJJ training, Schilling has shown quick transitioning and an aggressive offensive submission game, including a powerful guillotine.

Schilling’s demonstrated good power in his striking although his overall technique will require work. His footwork is rough, as is his understanding of range and his ability to gauge distance. Defensively Schilling does require work, though he’s able to overcome those shortcomings by employing an aggressive takedown strategy from in close.
