ANALYSIS
A talented fighter, Pat Curran is most known for his championship run during Bellator's FC's Season Two Lightweight Grand Prix. During that time he defeated former UFC superstar Roger Huerta while showing off the versatility and upside in his MMA game. A strong wrestler in high school, Curran began training in BJJ with his cousin at the age of seventeen. Three years later he turned his attention to MMA, where he's continued to progress both on his feet as well as on the mat.

Curran's a good athlete who shows very competent MMA wrestling skills. He does possess a high school wrestling background, and twice made it to States while wrestling in Florida. Curran is a strong scrambler who shows very quick hips and a good sprawl. His quickness is apparent throughout his game as he's proven extremely difficult to keep, and control on the ground. Although Curran's made his name known through his standup, he's not opposed to taking his opponent to the ground. If he feels pressured he will try and take the fight to the ground and is armed with a good single and double leg, quick outside leg trips and the capacity to land powerful slams. Curran transitions very quickly from top position, where if he's not controlled properly he can let his hands go and land a very rapid striking attack. Training under his cousin Jeff Curran since high school, Pat has been working on his BJJ for some time and is a proficient overall grappler.

While initially a wrestler and jiu jitsu stylist, Curran's quickly taken to the standup. He measures and maintains distance well and is particularly effective from the outside. Curran's speed and agility is prevalent throughout his striking, where he shows great hand speed and excellent upside in his boxing. Technical and fluid on his feet, Curran's armed with a powerful left hook, a nice right cross and excellent punching power. He also possesses a good kicking game from the outside, displaying stinging leg kicks, impressive front kicks, and very quick high kicks. While Curran's offensive striking game has come along nicely it hasn't taken away from his defensive awareness. Curran shows strong defensive abilities, keeping his guard up and using his footwork smartly. Possessing a composed, tactical striking style, Curran looks to pick his spots and counter but at times is too complacent on his feet. His decision to sit back and wait on his opponent almost lost him his bout with Toby Imada. Curran will also need to work on his standup from the clinch and in close, but given his age and rapid development he holds tremendous upside in his striking.
OUTLOOK
Pat Curran is a talented lightweight who's made big strides since joining Bellator FC. He shows promise in both his grappling and standup games, with significant room for further growth. Curran holds definitive top ten upside as a lightweight fighter.
