Papy Abedi is a physically gifted fighter competing in the middleweight division. He possesses incredible raw strength and athleticism, showing exceptional speed, quickness and explosive power. Abedi comes from a strong judo base and has shown potential in his standup.

Abedi’s striking is still green, but the raw talent is very evident. Standing southpaw, he’s shown excellent hand speed and good power early on. Abedi’s armed with a nice left hand and welcomes the striking aspect of the sport in spite of his grappling background. An athletically gifted fighter, Abedi shows tremendous quickness on his feet. He’s a dual threat in the clinch - proving capable of throwing lightening quick knees from in close to compliment his judo takedowns and throws. He’s also armed with good leg kicks from the outside, delivered with good power and precision. Although Abedi is still developing as a striker, the natural tools he’s blessed with are excellent and he definitely has the potential to continue progressing into a very strong middleweight striker.

Abedi is a judo black belt who shows solid trips and throws. A powerful all-around athlete, he’s able to take opponents to the mat with powerful takedowns and big slams from in close. Abedi lifts opponents into the air with incredible ease and quickness, and drives them in to the ground in very impressive fashion (see bouts with Pastor, Akbulut). He’s also shown good takedown defense, and his overall wrestling/grappling game is very encouraging. On the mat, Abedi’s armed with excellent, raw ground and pound abilities. He can explode with an incredibly fast, powerful barrage of punches from top position. He controls his opponents well, postures up nicely, and is very aggressive in his attack. He throws heavy punches, looks to finish and overall holds exciting potential in his ground and pound game. Abedi’s BJJ and technical ground skills continue to come together and he did compete in the 2009 ADCC Swedish Open. He’s shown the technical competence and intelligence to take advantage of submission opportunities that may arise due to his ground and pound abilities. At times Abedi’s offensive ground attack has put him in danger on the mat, and he will need to continue working on his guard as well as learning to harness his aggressive nature.
