ANALYSIS
Nate Moore is a welterweight fighter training (and coaching) out of the American Kickboxing Academy.
Moore comes from a strong wrestling background that includes a great deal of experience at very competitive levels of the sport. He began his career in grade six and wrestled throughout high school in the state of Indiana. Upon graduating Moore would continued wrestling collegiately at the NCAA Division I level for Purdue University, where he was a teammate of UFC standout Jon Fitch. There Moore would eventually become team captain of the school’s varsity team, and finish top ten in career wins for the school with over 100 for his career. Possessing a very strong technical wrestling pedigree, Moore is a hardworking wrestler fully capable of taking the fight to the ground. He’s armed with a wide array of takedowns at his disposal, including a nice double leg from the outside as well as effective single legs and ankle picks from in close. As a fighter coming from a strong wrestling base, opponent’s are aware of his background, and at times Moore does get a little predictable with his shots. Moore will need to do a better job of setting up his takedown attempts and disguising them behind his striking, as he has shown he’s a fighter who will stand and trade. Once on the mat Moore demonstrates effective ground control and ground and pound abilities while continuing to work diligently on his BJJ game.
Moore appears to be making a serious effort to try and improve his standup. He’s spent time in Thailand working on his muay thai, and did make a permanent move to San Jose to join the American Kickboxing Academy. Standing, Moore has shown nice footwork and good hand speed. He’s confident pushing forward and letting his hands go, working his jab, hooks, and a good right cross. Although he’s still developing as a striker, it’s encouraging to note that Moore is confident using his boxing having shown he will stand and trust his hands. Moore lets his punches go from in close, puts together a good left hook – straight right combo, and is armed with a quick superman punch. Going forward Moore will need to continue working on his technique. He tends to leave himself open to counters and will need to shore up his defensive game and get better at gauging distance.
