Matt Fiordirosa is a former standout high school wrestler who was a four-time state qualifier during his time at Grant High School in Fox Lake, Illinois. Known for his aggressive, exciting brand of fighting, Fiordirosa enjoyed a very successful start to his MMA career, which included a win over former WEC Bantamweight Champion Chase Beebe and being showcased on the "TapouT" television series. A little over a month later Fiordirosa abruptly retired citing personal reasons, but since then he has returned to his training at Team Curran.

Although he wasn't a standout collegiate wrestler, Fiordirosa does possess a strong technical wrestling base and has proven capable of getting the fight to the mat with big slams and powerful takedowns. An aggressive grappler from the top, Fiordirosa actively looks to pass guard and improve his positions while also displaying a relentless ground and pound game. Fiordirosa delivers quick, powerful strikes from inside his opponents guard (especially elbows), and effectively alternates between throwing elbows, punches and knees from top position. Training with Jeff Curran his submission game has continued to come together nicely, and he's proven to be a capable grappler who's able to capitalize on those opportunities on the ground. Always working on the mat, Fiordirosa throws up lots of submission attempts fighting off his back (see bout with Chase Beebe), and overall his wrestling, submission, and ground striking skills make for very exciting potential in his MMA ground game.

Fiordirosa is a very aggressive striker who loves pushing the pace and taking it to his opponents standing. He a quick athlete who moves around well, comes equipped with a very good gas tank, and isn't shy about letting his hands go. Fiordirosa possesses good hand speed and makes effective use of a nice left hook and right cross. He also shows good work from the clinch, is able to deliver solid knees from in close, and overall is willing to engage on his feet although he is still a little raw. Fiordirosa's standup needs some fine tuning and he does leave himself open at times, but with continued work on his technical skills he's shown he has the attitude and talent to develop into a competent MMA striker.
