ANALYSIS
An IFL and Bellator FC veteran, Lyman Good is an immensely talented welterweight fighter and the first ever Bellator FC Welterweight Champion. He's progressed very well in his early career and given more experience, seasoning and training he has the chance to develop into a complete, well rounded mixed martial artist.
The most impressive aspect of Lyman Good's raw tools are his size and natural athleticism. Athletically, Good's natural abilities rank amongst the very best in the division and his strength, quickness and speed are all top notch. Physically he's an absolute specimen of a fighter with a very large frame, muscular build and is shredded without an ounce of discernible fat on him. Good has spent the majority of his career competing as a decent sized middleweight and cutting down to welterweight is a massive fighter with a significant size advantage over most of the division.
Good is a technically sound striker who boasts a strong standup game, and is a dangerous fighter from a variety of positions given his well rounded abilities on his feet. Good has experience competing in the World Combat League where he did impress going undefeated in his only three fights. With an effective array of jabs, hooks and crosses, Good possesses very good hands and considerable punching power. Lyman does really good work in the clinch where he displays good dirty boxing skills and alternates well between strong uppercuts, and heavy punches and knees to the body. Good also boasts an impressive array of kicks including strong leg kicks, good push kicks and explosively quick high kicks (left and right). For the most part Good is a patient, composed striker who picks his spots but has the ability to explode with a flurry of punches, knees and kicks when he sees openings (see bouts with Ortiz, Urbina below). In his early career he's seemed to overwhelm opponents with his abilities on his feet, and given his age and experience there is still considerable room for growth.
Although he doesn't have the same wrestling pedigree or grappling credentials that some do, Good has shown rapidly improving wrestling abilities and technical ground skills as he's gained experience. His takedowns have improved significantly as his careers progressed, and he is particularly strong in the clinch where he can drop down, drive forward and power his opponents to the mat. Good stays tight to the body and controls his opponents very well from top position, does well to avoid any kind of submission attempts or sweeps from inside his opponents guard, and does have very good guard passing abilities. When he chooses to, Good is able to posture up and rain in a series of quick, precise and brutally efficient punches and is quickly developing into a very dangerous ground and pound artist. He stopped Omar De La Cruz (see below) with a powerful barrage of right hands on the ground and hold exciting promise with his ground and pound potential. Lyman has a good sprawl and is very difficult to get to the ground (see bout with Hector Urbina below), and because of that his abilities fighting off his back are largely unknown. Good's ground game has looked more and more impressive as he's gained experience, and going forward he does have the potential to develop into a very strong fighter on the ground.

OUTLOOK
Lyman Good exhibits well rounded abilities, and given his age and athletic abilities there is considerable reason to be excited about his future. He's made significant improvements in his ground game and looked more impressive with each passing bout. Although he'll need to continue working on his all-around game, he's already very polished as far as prospects go and is well on his way to becoming an impact, top ten welterweight.
