ANALYSIS
A two time Abu Dhabi veteran, Karol Bedorf is a Polish heavyweight prospect who is currently making his rounds on the European fight circuit. Presently he trains under Piotr Baginski (who is recognized as being the first BJJ black belt in Poland) and fights as a member of the Szczecin Top Team.
Bedorf's a grappler with a background in submission wrestling, and is a two time competitor at the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships (2007, 2009 - he didn't place either time). He is also a two-time Brazilian Jiu Jitsu European Champion (2007 and 2008 as a brown belt) and is widely regarded as one of the top pure grapplers currently fighting out of Europe. Bedorf possesses very sound technical ground skills, good guard passing and a ground and pound game that he's increasingly put to better use as his career's progressed. A solid all-around BJJ player, Bedorf is comfortable and composed fighting off his back and comes equipped with a respectable submission game from the bottom. While Bedorf is definitely most comfortable on the ground, he does not have the strongest wrestling pedigree. His takedowns, takedown defense and overall wrestling abilities are not anywhere near top-notch and will need to be improved before he can truly be considered a complete MMA grappler. At times Bedorf has been taken down quite easily (see bout with Francis Carmont), and has been put in precarious positions and submitted on the ground in his early MMA career. Bedorf's BJJ skills by themselves are not "elite" at this point and he would benefit greatly if he had a sound wrestling game to compliment them, and would do well towards working for that.
A good athlete, Bedorf has shown much improved footwork as his career's progressed and moves pretty well for a big man on his feet. Bedorf makes good use of kicks in his bouts, and is particularly effective with heavy leg kicks and swift high kicks. Bedorf also has a decent jab and good left hook but is still a developing striker who is much more comfortable fighting on the ground. When his opponents have let their hands go a bit and put pressure on Bedorf standing, he usually wants none of it and is quick to try and wrap his opponents up or look immediately to clinch (another area of his game his wrestling would really help). Bedorf is still not used to putting together combinations and usually sticks with throwing one or two punches at a time and his overall striking game still lacks polish, although it has made steady improvements through his first few fights. He will need to continue working on his footwork, head movement and technical striking skills, but has shown the natural ability to develop into a competent mixed martial arts striker.

OUTLOOK
Karol Bedorf is an experienced grappler with good ground skills, but he doesn't have the wrestling pedigree or striking to fully compliment those skills yet. Although he has shown steady progression in his early career, Bedorf has not displayed top notch potential in any area of his game and will need to continue working on his all-around abilities. He will need to pay special attention on improving his wrestling skills (as it is on the ground where he is most effective) but with continued work Bedorf has the potential to develop into a competent top twenty fighter.
