ANALYSIS
Justin Salas is an athletic lightweight and former Fight to Win Champion. Despite possessing no amateur experience, Salas jumped right into the pro circuit where he’s earned notable wins over Rob Emerson and Josh Arocho.

Salas is a powerful lightweight who excelled as a high school wrestler in Wyoming. There, he became a three-time High School All-American and twice captured State Championship titles. After graduating, Salas continued his wrestling career at NCAA Division I level at the University of Wyoming. An experienced, powerful wrestler, Salas possesses excellent lower body strength and has shown the capacity to keep the fight stranding or take his opponent to the mat. Salas really prefers to work his takedowns from in close, and does an admirable job of backing his opponent’s into the cage to achieve that. He works very actively from top position, posturing up (and often standing over his opponent) in order to dive in with heavy strikes. Although Salas can be overwhelming with his ground and pound, his aggressiveness does leave him susceptible defensively - particularly with submission attempts. Training his BJJ under Relson Gracie, Salas is armed with an assortment of powerful chokes which compliment his top-game abilities. With that said, he will need to continue working on his guard work if he wishes to become a complete MMA grappler.

Salas is a smooth striker who uses his angles and range well. He’s equipped with good footwork, power and speed, and is quite comfortable keeping the fight standing. Salas throws a nice lead right hook, straight left, and puts together quick combinations. To compliment his hands Salas features an effective kicking game that includes front push kicks and roundhouse kicks that are used to target the head, legs, and body of opponents. Though he’s able to quickly get in and out standing, defensively Salas does tend to duck into punches without always covering his head appropriately.
OUTLOOK
Justin Salas projects as a top position grappler with adequate striking. He comes from a strong wrestling background and has shown strong athletic tendencies. With work he can settle in as a top fifteen lightweight.
