ANALYSIS
A former grade school science teacher, Jordan Smith is a solid middleweight prospect currently making the rounds with some of the smaller promotions in the Western United States. The Utah native has shown well rounded potential through his first three years in the sport, compiling a 10-0 professional record including five submissions and five TKO's. Smith is a good athlete who was a standout high school football player, but did enter the sport without any real formal training in any single discipline of martial arts. Smith already holds a stoppage win over IFL vet Bristol Barunde, as well as respectable victories over Jeremy Peterson and Sean O'Connell.

Smith is an aggressive striker who incorporates both kicks and punches into his standup arsenal, and has shown the willingness to stand in the pocket and trade with opponents. Smith shows potential in his hands displaying good hand speed, a nice quick straight left, and has made it clear in his early career that his first preference is to keep the fight standing and bang it out on the feet. He's been quoted as saying that he "want(s) to fight standing up, I want to knock people out", and that attitude coupled with his improving technical skills is encouraging for his career going forward. As much as he may like to keep the fight standing, Smith has also shown he is capable of fighting on the ground when he needs to. He has a killer instinct and definitely looks to finish fights, capitalizing immediately on any opportunities he sees. Smith can be taken down and will need to improve his wrestling and takedown defense, but his striking, BJJ, and submission games appear to be developing quite nicely and with continued work he has a chance to develop into a well rounded middleweight.
OUTLOOK
Despite the fact that he didn't come from a strong martial arts background and began his training at a later point in time than most, Jordan Smith has compiled an impressive record early in his career stopping his first ten opponents he's been matched against. He's shown he's talented and if he's able to catch on with a larger promotion and be given the resources to focus fully on his MMA career, Smith has definite top fifteen potential at middleweight.
