ANALYSIS
Training out of Pellegrino MMA, Jeff Lentz is a promising MMA fighter who currently competes in the featherweight division. Lentz has excellent height and size for the division and in his early career has garnered attention for his hardnosed fighting style and knockout power in his standup.
Although he's a little unorthodox in his approach, Lentz has proven he's a dangerous striker with the ability to finish on his feet. His first preference is to keep the fight standing where he's shown he's a comfortable striker with good reach and tremendous knockout power. Lentz isn't afraid to engage, throws lots of power punches, and shows solid clinch skills with the ability to deliver big knees from in close. Lentz displays a particularly impressive assortment of kicks, confidently throwing high kicks, side kicks, leg kicks, and front kicks with frequency over the course of his bouts. He's a tough fighter with a good chin, and he's proven he doesn't wilt under the pressure when's he's hit or rushed. While his power and tenacity are definitely impressive, Lentz hasn't shown great hand speed or quickness and will need to work on his footwork and defensive skills. He does leave himself open to counter punchers and he's not naturally quick or light on his feet, which could lead to possible troubles when dealing with the speed and agility that many of the top featherweights in the world possess.
Lentz has shown a steadily improving takedown defense over his career, but competent wrestlers can still take him to the mat (this is partly due to the fact he throws so many kicks). There've been times when he's been shut down, controlled on his back, and shown susceptibility to a strong ground and pound attack, but he's continued to show improved guard work as he's gained experience. Although he still prefers the standup, Lentz has become more active and looked visibly more comfortable operating off his back. He's shown better positional guard play, worked much better at maintaining his position once on the ground, and shown the confidence to consistently throw up armbar, kimura, and triangle attempts from the bottom. Furthermore, Lentz is equipped with long legs and trains out of a good grappling camp so his jiu jitsu abilities are definitely promising - albeit still green.

OUTLOOK
Jeff Lentz holds intriguing potential in his striking and will need to continue working on the technical aspects of his ground game. Although he's still raw, Lentz is also very young and in the early stages of his MMA career. Lentz does have quite a bit of developing left to do, but given more time, training, and experience he has the ability to develop into a top ten featherweight fighter.
