A former Shooto Rookie Champion in 2007, Hiromasa Ogikubo is a Paraestra Matsudo product currently competing in Japan.

Though it would be hard to classify Ogikubo as you prototypical takedown artist, he does work hard at getting his opponent to the mat. Ogikubo rarely drops down and shoots directly, instead choosing to get inside where he works well from close quarters. Ogikubo is strong in the clinch, demonstrating the ability to take opponent’s down with rapidly executed body lock takedowns, trips, and cross body throws. Aided by his compact stature and low center of gravity, Ogikubo’s shown good balance and quick scrambling abilities. He’s great at attaining top position in the scramble, and quickly secures back from top position. Ogikubo’s armed with good submissions awareness, a competent positional ground game, and a strong arsenal of chokes. He works a persistent, yet effective, ground and pound attack and would certainly be considered a top position grappler in his makeup and approach.

Ogikubo’s striking serves as a compliment to his grappling ability. He does do well in keeping his hands up, presses the action at suitable times, and looks to utilize his counter left hook. Ogikubo will also work his kicks – usually to the legs and body, although he will occasionally come up high with head kicks. Ogikubo will attempt to get in close to opponents where he appears much more confident in letting his hands go. Much of the reason for this stems from Ogikubo’s lack of reach, which does cause him problems, both offensively and defensively, from the outside. He gets caught reaching occasionally and often leaves himself off balance and open to the counter. Still developing as a striker, Ogikubo will need to tidy up his technical skill standing.
