Hae Joon Yang is an intriguing Korean heavyweight prospect. Standing only 5'10" but weighing in at 240 pounds, Yang is a short, stocky, and powerful fighter who in the future will likely need to move down a weight division. He's an M-1 Challenge veteran who's shown good raw power in his early career, and he does hold a notable knockout of Brazilian veteran Joaquim Ferreira. Committed to his training, Yang began wrestling as a high school senior (2006) to continue rounding out his MMA skill set, which he's continued to pick up at a quick rate since. He captured a Silver Medal in the Korean National High School Wrestling Championships (2006), and then continued wrestling at the collegiate lever at Yong-In University - which is known for having one of the top wrestling programs in Korea.

Yang isn't known for his explosive wrestling abilities, but his wrestling does continue to develop and he has shown good takedowns from in close. Yang is an aggressive ground and pounder who looks to stand over his opponent and rain in a barrage of punches and hammer fists. At times he will leave himself susceptible to sweeps, submission and leg locks due to his aggressive nature on the mat. Yang will look to improve his positioning when he sees his opening, but technically his ground game is still coming together and he remains very raw and green.

Yang striking game is pretty simple; he possesses big time power and a solid chin, but will need to continue working on his technique. He goes right after his opponents and definitely isn't afraid of standing in the pocket and trading power shots. Yang's able to generate a lot of power in his strikes, and does show good hand speed and tremendous raw punching power. He throws big bombs and very heavy hooks (especially with his left hook), but his technical striking game still requires a lot of improvement. Yang does hold a notable knockout win over Gracie Fusion fighter Joaquim Ferreira (who in turn holds a notable win over UFC standout Junior dos Santos), but his overall striking game while promising, will need continued work on the technical side of things.
