ANALYSIS
Part of the Nova Uniao fight team, Hacran Dias is a Shooto Brazil and M-1 Challenge veteran currently competing in the lightweight division. He's compiled an impressive record through his first four years in the sport where he has quietly been earning a reputation for his smart, technical grappling game and positional ground skills.
The Nova Uniao camp is well known for producing strong BJJ fighters and Hacran Dias is no different. Dias is a technically sound grappler who does not get careless, picks his spots well on the ground and overall possesses a composed, methodical ground game. Although he has displayed a very astute submission game and shown the ability to quickly transition between attempts, Dias is more in the mould of a strong positional tactician then a submission machine. He definitely prefers to fight from top position where he has shown smooth transitions and strong guard passing abilities. Dias throws a lot of punches and hammer fists on the ground and uses his ground and pound effectively when setting up transitions. Although his ground and pound keeps his opponents honest and Dias from being one dimensional, his ground attack is not particularly strong and he has not shown any finishing power with his punches. Dias works hard to get the fight to the ground, and displays good bodylock takedowns from the clinch, a quick double leg and good takedowns overall (see him execute a beautiful ankle pick against Afonso Ceguinho below). Dias has also shown great balance and has been extremely hard to takedown in his early career (see match with Sargento and bout with Nam below), and his intriguing wrestling potential bodes very well given his fighting style.
Dias will mix in the occasional leg kick, but relies mainly on his hands and his boxing skills when he's standing. He fights with composure on his feet, and displays nice head movement while also possessing good defensive abilities. Dias has a nice jab, right cross and left hook but is far from a power puncher and tends to rely on working his jab and cross from the outside to score points and setup takedown attempts. At this point in his career Dias wouldn't be considered a dangerous striker and his standup abilities are more of a compliment to his ground game then somewhere he'll finish from. Dias is clearly more comfortable fighting on the ground and will take the fight down if he has the choice, although he's continued to show improvements on his feet as he's gained experience in his early career.

OUTLOOK
Hacran Dias is obviously a competent BJJ fighter who has shown potential in his top game and composed ground skills. While he has shown potential in his takedowns and sprawl, there are concerns that his style of grappling just won't match up very well against the stronger wrestlers in the division. He'll need to continue working on his standup game and we've still yet to see what he can truly do fighting off his back, but Dias does have top fifteen potential at lightweight.
