ANALYSIS
An intelligent, hardworking fighter who is very passionate about his MMA career; Guillaume De Lorenzi is an up and coming lightweight prospect who's spent the majority of his career competing on the Canadian fight circuit. An athlete who values the importance of being as well rounded as possible, De Lorenzi appears to be making a very concerted effort in making sure that he develops into as versatile a fighter as he possibly can. His training background ranges a variety of different disciplines starting first with karate and judo - which he took growing up. While studying to become a police officer, De Lorenzi began training in traditional jiu jitsu and eventually worked his way up to a black belt in the discipline. Later, he began studying BJJ with the members of BTT Canada and following in the lead of fellow Canuck Georges St. Pierre, De Lorenzi has trained his wrestling with members of the Canadian National Wrestling Team. He's also spent time in Thailand training his muay thai and in Brazil working on his BJJ, and overall De Lorenzi has worked extremely hard and exhibited tremendous commitment to his development as a mixed martial artist.

As mentioned before, De Lorenzi has worked hard on various areas of his ground game and strives to be as complete a grappler as possible. De Lorenzi shows promise in his wrestling abilities and given his work ethic and training with members of the Canadian wrestling team, it bodes well for his continued progress in that area. As he's gained experience he's shown improving takedowns and wrestling abilities, and very active and effective ground and pound skills from top position. A versatile wrestler, De Lorenzi's takedown abilities are quite diverse and he's displayed particularly good work from in close - proving capable of getting the fight to the mat with slams, single legs and double legs, and overall by working hard to secure the takedown. In the few instances that De Lorenzi has been put on his back he's been very difficult to control or contain. His bout with War Machine showed that De Lorenzi could match strength with good sized welterweights, and having dropped to lightweight since then his strength potential appears even more promising. At times he'll begin to rush things on the ground and he was submitted by UFC veteran War Machine, but De Lorenzi has trained regularly with BTT Canada, shows promising ground and abilities, holds a black belt in traditional jiu jitsu and the overall potential in his ground game is quite intriguing.

An aggressive fighter, De Lorenzi likes to move forward and press the action on the feet where he can look to shoot in for a takedown or force the action with his striking. De Lorenzi makes a concerted effort to try and finish his fights, and of the first seven wins of his career - only one has come by way of decision. Quick on his feet, De Lorenzi displays good footwork and is able to unleash very quick kicks which he uses to target the legs and body of opponents with. He's also equipped with excellent hand speed and good punching power (as well as a quick, powerful left hook), and has dropped and hurt fighters in the past having finished the first five fights of his career by TKO. From in close he's shown good dirty boxing skills and sharp elbow strikes to go with his steadily improving takedowns; skills which really compliment each other from close quarters. Like on the ground, De Lorenzi does leave himself a little susceptible to counters on his feet. He'll need to learn to harness his aggressiveness and work on refining his technique, but De Lorenzi displays excellent natural instincts and raw tools on his feet and his overall standup potential is very exciting.
OUTLOOK
Guillaume De Lorenzi's work ethic, determination, and commitment to his craft are top notch. What's further, he's a good athlete who shows promise in a variety of areas of his MMA game and the potential to develop into a versatile, well rounded lightweight fighter. Competing on the Canadian circuit, De Lorenzi may not be known to casual fans but his talent is undeniably intriguing. With continued work, De Lorenzi has a chance to develop into a top ten lightweight.
