The son of the legendary Rolls Gracie and brother to IFL and UFC veteran Rolles Gracie Jr., Gregor Gracie is a high level grappler and prospect in the welterweight division. A Gracie Black Belt BJJ practitioner, Gregor is an accomplished jiu jitsu player with excellent grappling credentials. Amongst his accomplishments, Gregor is a two-time BJJ World Champion (2004 and 2005 as a Purple Belt), a runner up at the BJJ No-Gi World Championships, a Pan-Am Games Gold Medalist (Brown Belt), a Brazilian National Champion (2005 as a Purple Belt) and an Abu Dhabi veteran who placed third in the 2009 ADCC Submission Wrestling Championships. A solid athlete, while Gregor definitely has work to do on his striking the tools are there for him to develop into solid MMA fighter.

Not surprising, Gracie's primary goal is to try and secure a takedown and take the fight to the ground. Naturally a BJJ stylist, Gracie doesn't come from a wrestling base although he has shown the ability to take his opponent to the mat by working hard from in close, where he shows nice bodylock takedowns, and effective inside and outside leg trips. A highly skilled and accomplished grappler in his career, Gregor possesses an extremely fluid ground game that consists of beautiful, high level and technically sound jiu jitsu skills. Gregor is a very experience gi and no-gi jiu jitsu player who shows excellent guard passing abilities and nice control from the top. He's very methodical and technical in his approach, and he's shown tremendous positional ground skills and technical aptitude. Tactical in his approach, Gregor doesn't possess an overly aggressive submission game although he's extremely competent and proficient in the area. Gracie does a good job of incorporating his fists and elbows into his ground game, effectively opening up grappling opportunities from the top. He's also shown solid guard skills, and possesses the confidence and technical ability to remain comfortable fighting from any position on the mat.

Gracie's armed with good hand speed and a quick left hand. He has displayed improvement early in his career and shown the confidence to throw kicks and let his hands go. In past bouts, Gregor has appeared confident when standing in the pocket and exchanging which is definitely an encouraging development. Having said that, Gracie's overall striking game remains green and will require continued work. Appearing stiff and robotic at times, Gregor's standup is still well behind his grappling game in it's development. He has a tendency to get sloppy on his feet and does look to immediately shoot when he gets tagged or the action begins to pick up on the feet. Due to that, he does leave himself open to be hurt - especially if his opponent's can time his shots. Gracie will need to continue focusing on his technique and sharpening his defensive game if he wishes to round out his skills as a mixed martial artist.
