ANALYSIS
Fighting out of Long Island, New York, Gian Villante is a very promising up and coming fighter and Ring of Combat Heavyweight Champion. Training at the Bellmore Kickboxing Academy under Keith Trimble (as well as D'Arce BJJ), Villante is a good athlete who enters the sport with backgrounds in both wrestling and football. Villante is a former New York State Wrestling Champion who went on to wrestle collegiately at Hofstra University (NCAA Div. I) for one year. During the same time he also excelled on the gridiron where he was a very accomplished linebacker in both high school and college. After his college playing days ended, Villante drew attention from several NFL teams before deciding to pursue a career as a mixed martial artist.

Villante is obviously a very naturally gifted athlete who excelled in both football and wrestling prior to turning his attention to mixed martial arts. Although he does have that Division I wrestling base, it's his football mentality that's helped shape his MMA game. Villante prefers to use his wrestling to keep the fight standing where he's shown no aversion towards going toe to toe, and standing in the pocket and trading. A powerful athlete, Villante's proven to be a very heavy handed striker who's capable of hitting incredibly hard with both his punches and kicks. He possesses significant knockout power, and has the ability to explode with powerful punches from in close. Villante's armed with very heavy leg kicks and powerful high kicks, aswell as a good straight right and left hook from mid range. Although Villante will need to improve his conditioning in addition to his technical and defensive skills, his raw talent is undeniable and he's blessed with the natural tools to develop into a very dangerous standup fighter.

While Villante has shown a preference towards keeping the fight standing, he is a capable wrestler who won a New York State Championship and wrestled at the Division I level despite the fact football was his main priority. Villante's armed with strong takedowns and slams, and he has shown the capacity to take his opponent to the ground if he feels that's where he holds the biggest strategic advantage. He has a good, composed top control game and displays active ground and pound capabilities from all positions on the mat. If given the opportunity Villante can unload with heavy punches from the top, and his wrestling background and raw power is encouraging for his future ground and pound development. Villante's BJJ, submission, and guard skills remain green and will need work if he wishes to round out his grappling arsenal.
OUTLOOK
Gian Villante is a strong athlete who possesses exciting power potential in his MMA game. He's a solid wrestler who hits very hard, and his natural raw talent is something that can't be learned. Villante will need to focus on his conditioning and overall technical skills, but he's shown he has top ten potential as a fighter.
