Genair da Silva spent the early parts of his career competing on the Brazilian circuit before making his North American debut with Bellator in the summer of 2011. Speed, quickness, and aggression are trademarks of da Silva’s approach, as is his ability to competitively perform standing and on the ground.

Da Silva’s footwork is the most impressive aspect of his standup. He moves around the cage effortlessly, getting in and out of range at a fantastic rate. Versatile in his approach, da Silva relies on a dangerous kicking game and competent boxing. He lets his kicks go extremely quickly, going heavy with his high, low, and front attacks. He’s shown good speed and power in his punching, relying primarily on a big left hook and right cross down the middle. At times da Silva will stand in front of his opponent exchanging power shots and could stand to make better use of his reach, jab, and footwork defensively. Additionally, his punching game is not quite as polished as his kicks, which combined with the fact he will let opposition fighters get inside his range often leaves da Silva vulnerable to straight punches down the middle.

Da Silva is a very aggressive top position grappler. He shoots in extremely quickly with his takedown attempts, digs deep and can take his opponent down well – especially from the clinch. Working from above, da Silva moves well and shows quick transitioning abilities. As opportunities arise, da Silva can open up with a blistering ground and pound attack. He’s capable of landing punches in rapid succession from the top and overall holds exciting potential in his ground and pound game. Defensively, da Silva digs hard for his underhooks and can avoid the takedown with a quick sprawl. Off his back he’s a competent defensive grappler who avoids submissions well.
