Erik Koch is a confident, mentally strong featherweight fighter and product of the Roufusport MMA Fight Team. Nicknamed "New Breed", Koch is part of the next wave of MMA fighters who didn't start his career building off any one base, but instead began learning "mixed martial arts" right from the beginning. Before signing with the WEC, Koch had torn through the Iowa fight scene where he garnered attention for his aggressive fighting style and proficient all-around MMA game.

Koch is a slick, crafty and well rounded MMA grappler who can handle himself well on the ground. He's capable of taking his opponents to the mat displaying good trips and takedowns from in close, and he's a long, lean featherweight who makes good use of his sprawl and possesses good takedown defense. On the mat Koch is a very active fighter who's always looking to make something happen. From top position he shows nice guard passing abilities, an enthusiastic ground and pound game and strong submission skills. Koch is equipped with long flexible legs and is very comfortable operating off his back where he shows a good, active guard game. A solid BJJ fighter, Koch really enjoys working a high/rubber guard and is very dangerous at taking his opponent's back and tying them up in a body triangle. Overall while Koch may not display elite ability in any one area of his grappling arsenal, he's shown he's a versatile fighter who possesses very respectable skills in all areas of his MMA mat game.

Standing southpaw, Koch isn't known for his striking power but he does show good variety in his standup game. A long, lean featherweight, Koch is blessed with excellent reach and is very comfortable keeping the fight standing. He's equipped with good hands that consist of a quick jab, nice straight left and good right uppercut. Koch also possesses a good repertoire of kicks, and has proven capable of delivering quick leg kicks, powerful body kicks and quick, accurate high kicks. From in close he's able to deliver quick knee strikes, and because of his long legs he can either come up high to his opponents head or go straight to the body with relative ease. Like on the ground, Koch remains very active on his feet and aggressively pushes the pace and looks to finish decisively.
