ANALYSIS
Erick Silva is a Team Nogueira product who’s made his mark competing for domestic promotion Jungle Fight. There, he captured the promotion’s inaugural welterweight championship with consecutive stoppages of Gil de Freitas and Francisco Ayon at Jungle Fight 23. Over his career Silva has slowly, but surely built a solid record through his first few years as a pro.
Silva’s a muay thai stylist who is very confident on his feet. He has quick feet, moves well and is comfortable fighting from an orthodox or southpaw stance, often seen switching back and forth between the two. Silva incorporates a lot of movement into his legs, hands, and head to disguise his striking. He’s in possession of a good assortment of kicks, delivering them powerfully to the legs and body of his opposition - particularly from the left side. Silva intelligently uses his low kicks to set up high ones, and also successfully integrates switch kicks, back kicks and push kicks into his striking arsenal. Very light on his feet, Silva quickly goes right up the middle with flying knees keeping his opponent on guard at all times. Silva is also effective from in close where he works powerful knees from his thai clinch. Silva can use his hands well, working his jabs, straight rights and lefts, and big overhands and hooks. Although Silva is effective at using his sways and leans to keep his head safe from opposition striking, he does have a tendency to drop it when letting his own punches go. He leaves himself open to counters and can be backed up with an offensive rush, and should continue working on his counter striking game.
While Silva’s wrestling will require work, he hasn’t shown any aversion towards taking the fight to the mat to work from top position. Silva works very hard at keeping off his back, but powerful grapplers have shown he is susceptible to the takedown against them. Silva will often sacrifice position in order to give himself a shot at getting back to his feet, and should continue working on his guard and defensive wrestling. Fighting from top position, Silva is capable of landing accurate punches and big hammer fists. He displays quick transitions and excellent instincts in reacting to, and locking in submission opportunities. He’s armed with good chokes from the top, solid submission defense and the conditioning to employ an offensive strategy throughout his bout.

OUTLOOK
Erick Silva is a promising welterweight fighter. He’s developed at a steady rate, showing potential in both his striking and ground games. As he gains experience he will need to shore up his defensive shortcomings, but he’s a potential top ten player undoubtedly.
