Edarudo Dantas is an up and coming Nova Uniao prospect who's shown promising diversity early in his mixed martial arts career. Well rounded in his abilities, Dantas is equally comfortable on the ground or standing. A Shooto veteran, Dantas already holds a convincing victory over world class flyweight Shinichi Kojima in a bout where he showed off strong standup and solid jiu jitsu skills in securing a one sided decision win.
While Dantas and his team do have a reputation of being strong grapplers, Eduardo has also taken an enthusiastic approach on his feet where he isn't shy about being aggressive and exchanging with opponents. Dantas trains his standup regularly with WEC superstar Jose Aldo, and he is a confident, aggressive striker who shows no fear on his feet. He uses his reach and length effectively, and isn't in the slightest bit hesitant about throwing kicks or incorporating flying knees into his striking arsenal. Quick and fast on his feet, Dantas is armed with a nice left hook and right cross, and is able to deliver quick knees from in close. Dantas possesses a nice repertoire of kicks, and has proven proficient at delivering strong leg kicks, powerful head kicks and heavy body kicks. Dantas is armed with a solid chin, good power and although he does push the pace, he remains technical in his approach. He'll pick his spots when pushing forward to keep from walking into counters, and although Dantas can open up with quick flurry he also shows good counter punching abilities. Dantas will need to work on his defensive game as he has a tendency to drop his hands and not check leg kicks, but his standup - like his whole game, shows versatility and the progression he's shown at an early age bodes very well for even further development in the future.
While Dantas doesn't come from a wrestling background, he has shown steady improvement in his takedowns and takedown defense very early in his career. He possesses a nice single leg, good leg trips and is capable of taking his opponent to the mat from in close. Quick and slick on the ground, Dantas is a BJJ stylist who possesses strong jiu jitsu skills that are still improving. His technical skills are very strong, and he's shown a good understanding of the fundamentals of BJJ. Dantas does very well not to get sloppy or careless on the mat, which shouldn't be surprising given the reputation of the Nova Uniao camp he trains with. Comfortable from anywhere, Dantas transitions well between positions and shows very good guard passing abilities from the top. He also uses his reach well, as he looks to dive in with his punches from inside his opponents guard. Dantas is capable of opening up and getting aggressive with his ground and pound, but he does it with restraint and avoids getting careless. Off his back, Dantas shows good defensive skills and competent guard skills. He's flexible, long limbed and works his high guard very nicely. Dantas shows quick hips and nice sweeps, and is already well versed enough in his submission game that he is a threat to finish off his back.
