One of the top prospects in the sport to come out of the American South East, Douglas Lima is a talented welterweight fighter who began his pro career at the age of nineteen. Originally hailing from Brazil, Lima was raised in Atlanta, Georgia where he continues to reside - currently training with the members of the American Top Team Atlanta camp. Lima has been competing since he was in high school and by all accounts is incredibly devoted to his fighting career despite his young age. At one point he was signed to the WEC, but visa problems and the dissolution of the promotion's 170 pound weight class cost Lima his fight and subsequently his contract. A good athlete with a killer instinct, Lima was a fan of the legendary Wanderlei Silva growing up and it definitely shows, as he has molded his own fighting style from that of the Brazilian MMA legend.

Lima is a very aggressive striker who comes from a kickboxing background and has shown dangerous standup skills in his early career. He moves around very well and has nice footwork, to go along with impressive technical skills and knockout striking power on his feet. Lima is equipped with a great assortment of kicks and is particularly impressive with his quick, precise high kicks that are thrown with equal aplomb from both legs, while also making effective use of his leg kicks. Lima also has fast hands including a nice right cross and left hook, as well as solid punching power having dropped and hurt numerous fighters in his early career. Lima can also unload very quickly with powerful fight-ending knees from the thai clinch, and overall exhibits excellent potential in his standup abilities.

Lima also has the ability to unleash a quick, powerful attack from top position on the ground. He really seems to enjoy standing over his opponents and chopping away at their thighs with leg kicks while he looks for opportunities to dive in with big punches from the top. Lima is very aggressive with his striking on the ground, and gives his opponents' little room or time to try and set anything up. His punches come in from all angles and positions and he actually stopped opponent Cody Senseney with punches that he was throwing fighting off his back from his own guard. While he definitely shows strong ground and pound potential, at times his fiercely aggressive approach has lead to some tight situations on the ground. Lima was caught in several close submission attempts in his bout with Brent Weedman before he was finally submitted via a fight ending armbar, and will need to get better at picking his spots on the ground. Nevertheless, Lima is very committed to his training and has worked hard on complimenting his standup abilities with steadily improving wrestling and technical BJJ skills on the mat, and given the coaches and training partners at his disposal at ATT - it only serves to aid him further in that regard.
