ANALYSIS
Dong Yi Yang is a promising middleweight prospect, Sengoku veteran, and current competitor for the UFC. Despite standing just 5'11", Yang has competed as high as heavyweight where he holds a notable win over world class judoka Pawel Nastula. After evaluating his options, Yang made an intelligent choice to cut down to middleweight and was subsequently signed by the UFC in the summer of 2010.
Yang shows good takedown defense and the capacity to take his opponents to the mat from in close. On the ground Yang is capable of competing, but will need to work on his technical skills. He possesses a very aggressive ground and pound game, actively working his striking from top position. On occasion, he has found himself fending off submission attempts and going forward he'll need to learn to harness his aggressive tendencies, in addition to working on his BJJ and wrestling abilities.
Early in his career, Yang has earned a reputation for his hard hitting style on his feet. He is armed with respectable striking power, and eight of his first nine wins have come as a result of KO/TKO. Yang has a good chin and is not afraid of exchanging on the feet. He lets his hands go in the pocket, where he's shown a good straight left and quick leg kicks. Yang has the mindset that a fighter should finish his fights, and will actively pursue his opponents in an attempt to do so. He will get very aggressive if he feels he has his opponents in trouble, but in the process does get a little reckless with his striking. While Yang's disposition is encouraging, he will need to continue working on refining his technique.

OUTLOOK
Dong Yi Yang has shown raw potential throughout his MMA game. His punching power and ground and pound games are promising, and at 185 pounds size won't be nearly the issue it was at heavyweight. Yang will need to focus on his technique, but he does have top fifteen potential at middleweight.
