ANALYSIS
An Oregon native, DJ Linderman has quietly been rising through the ranks and making a name for himself fighting in the American West. Linderman has a background in wrestling and does his strongest work on the ground, and through his first year in the sport does hold stoppage victories over IFL veteran Devin Cole (submission) and respected American Top Team product Mario Rinaldi (TKO).
With a wrestling background it doesn't come as too much of a surprise that Linderman does show a definite preference in taking the fight to the ground. Linderman is a physically strong fighter and works very hard for the takedown, constantly pushing forward and doing well to get his opponents against the cage where he looks to drop down for a leg or to scoop up and slam his opponent down. On the ground Linderman displays good patience and composure, and looks to ensure he gets his position set before going to work on any kind of offense. At times he has gotten complacent with his ground game as he seems to get content with sitting in his opponents guard and maintaining position, and it's not uncommon to see his fights stood up with him on the ground controlling his opponent from the top. Nevertheless, Linderman has shown he can deliver an effective ground and pound attack at times (see bout with Chris Robertson) and does hold a ground and pound TKO stoppage of ATT fighter Mario Rinaldi. Linderman's BJJ skills are still very green and he's certainly more of a wrestler at this point in his career. An extremely tough and hardworking fighter however, Linderman did hold his own with respected heavyweight grappler Mario Rinaldi on the ground and showed tremendous heart in pulling out a third round TKO victory. Despite that, Linderman has nearly been caught in some very slowly developing submission attempts early in his career, he has been put on his back and likely will in the future, and his wrestling abilities would not be considered "elite" which makes it all the more important that he continues developing his technical ground skills and guard game.
On his feet Linderman will need to continue working on his overall standup skills. He is still quite raw on his feet and doesn't really incorporate any kicks or combinations into his striking arsenal, instead relying mainly on isolated jabs and straight rights. Linderman also looks heavy on his feet and will need to improve his footwork, and also hasn't shown great hand speed or punching power early in his career. Most of what Linderman does standing is in an attempt to set up a shot for a takedown, and he definitely looks much more comfortable on the mat then on his feet. While Linderman doesn't exhibit tremendous natural striking ability, he has proven he can take a punch, does possess an excellent chin and will not shy away from pushing forward and pressing the action on the feet. Linderman's standup game will advance based on the work he puts into it, and given he doesn't display the potential to develop into a dominating grappler it's important that his skill-set be as well rounded as possible and that his striking abilities continue to improve.

OUTLOOK
From a pure athletic standpoint, Linderman may not match up very well with the bigger, faster, stronger and more naturally gifted fighters in the weight division given his current skill level. Linderman is a good wrestler who likes taking the fight to the ground -but he's not a dominant one, which makes it all the more imperative that his game be as well rounded as possible. A hardworking "blue collar" type of fighter, Linderman's heart and toughness are not questioned. He already holds wins over a couple of respectable heavyweights and given how thin the heavyweight division is on top level talent, if he can continue working on improving his all around game he has the potential to develop into a top twenty heavyweight in the future.
