ANALYSIS
A veteran of the Ultimate Fighter reality series, Dean Amasinger is a British MMA fighter currently competing in the welterweight division. Amasinger had no real martial arts background before becoming involved in MMA, but instead was a promising rugby player whose career was cut short due to injuries. Amasinger is another in a long line of intelligent, well spoken fighters and actually holds a university degree in biochemistry. Currently training at one England's top camps - Team Rough House, Amasinger has also spent time training his jiu jitsu with Team Brasa in Brazil, and his striking in the Netherlands at Mike's Gym.
Courtesy of his time spent playing rugby (when Dean was also an avid power lifter), physically Amasinger is a powerful fighter at welterweight. He possesses tremendous strength and is very capable of dropping down, scooping his opponents up and driving them to the ground with powerful takedowns and slams (see bout with Jansen, and his Quinton Jackson-esque slam of Gorski below). While Amasinger has shown potential in his wrestling, his takedowns are achieved mainly through the use of power and brute strength and he will need to work on his technical wrestling game. On the ground Amasinger likes fighting from the top where he's able to utilize his punches and hammer fists on his opponent. Amasinger is far from being a brutal ground and pound artist but he is active with his striking and uses it effectively to score "points" and win rounds. The area of his grappling game that will require special attention is his BJJ and submission defense. Amasinger is quite green on the mat and his technical ground skills have given him trouble in the past. During his time on "The Ultimate Fighter" he was nearly submitted by veteran Alex Reid numerous times (several times by submission attempts that were painfully slow to develop), and was eventually triangle choked by Damarques Johnson to get knocked out of the show. He has been able to power his way out of trouble in the past, but against the better grapplers in the division that will not suffice. Although his strength and takedown potential is encouraging, it does not mean much if he constantly finds himself in trouble when fighting from inside his opponents guard. Amasinger's ground game has looked better in recent bouts and he will need to continue working on shoring up that area of his game.
Amasinger's continued to work hard on his standup and has displayed improving footwork as he's gained experience in his career. He possesses powerful leg kicks, a good left hook and overall uses his hands pretty well on his feet. He is still raw but has shown that he isn't afraid to stand and trade in the pocket and has looked much sharper with his striking since his time on the show. He will need to continue working on his technique, but getting a chance to train regularly with strong strikers in Dan Hardy, Andre Winner, and Paul Daley (to name a few) at Team Rough House, Amasinger's standup does have the potential to improve going forward.

OUTLOOK
Dean Amasinger is an intriguing prospect given his strength and power potential fighting at welterweight. However, while his game has shown improvements over the course of his career there remain numerous questions surrounding his overall skill level. He will need to continue working on all facets of his game while paying particular attention to his grappling and submission abilities, but with more work he has top twenty five potential in the division.
