ANALYSIS
Fighting out of Darmstadt, Germany and the Tempel Fight School, Dawid Baziak is a German heavyweight prospect currently signed to the M-1 Global roster. Baziak comes to the sport with a muay thai striking base and is definitely much more comfortable keeping the fight on his feet. He's a solid athlete who possesses naturally fast hands and displays good footwork and an aggressive standup game. Baziak likes to set the pace of the fight and control the action on the feet and is effective at using front push kicks to keep his opponents from getting inside on him. Fast and strong, Baziak is a hard hitter who has finished all five of his pro fights via TKO. Although he is still quite raw, Baziak shows good potential on his feet given his handspeed, athletic abilities, aggressiveness and natural punching power. He will definitely need to continue refining his overall technique, but with more experience and training does show the aptitude to develop into a competitive mixed martial arts striker.
While his standup game shows potential despite being very green, Baziak has not been able to give the same impression regarding his abilities on the ground. His striking skills have looked good and he's shown he can deliver a heavy ground and pound attack from top position, but his overall wrestling, jiu jitsu and technical ground skills are definitely not his strong suit. Baziak has improving takedown defense but has shown that he can be taken down by a decent wrestler and controlled on the ground. Baziak has not offered much fighting off his back and his overall goal has been to get the fight back on the feet by whatever means necessary - whether it is by holding his opponents and waiting to be stood up by the referee, or by simply trying to stand back up once he's been put down. A fish out of water on his back, Baziak was taken down, controlled and eventually mounted in his bout with Tugrul Okay (see below), and was probably well on his way to losing if not for the inexperience and poor conditioning of his opponent. In addition, Baziak's only loss (Hans Stringer) has come against the most well rounded opponent he's faced and a fighter who is particularly strong on the ground. At this point in his career Baziak possesses a very basic ground game and is pretty much a one dimensional fighter who will need to work significantly on improving his overall grappling abilities.

OUTLOOK
Dawid Baziak's standup game shows good potential as he's displayed good instincts, raw tools and the ability to finish fights on his feet. However, he hasn't shown that he has the ability to keep the fight standing against good grapplers and he has not looked great when he's put on the ground. At only 24 years of age Baziak is nowhere near being a finished product, and he's a good athlete who won his first five pro fights. He will need to continue working on his all-around game and pay special attention to his grappling, takedowns and ground game, but with continued work has the potential to develop into a top twenty five fighter in the future.
