ANALYSIS
A former football standout at West Fargo High School, Dane Sayers is now a promising MMA prospect in the lightweight division. One of the most encouraging aspects of Sayers makeup is the certainty he shows in himself. He never seems to hesitate, going immediately after any opening he senses during the fight. Always looking to finish, Dane is comfortably able to transition between his striking and grappling (and vice versa) without losing momentum and keeping the pressure up.
Sayers isn't a wrestler by trade, but will make an effort to try and secure top position on the ground. From there, he makes good use of his elbows and punches while also looking to pass and try and improve his positioning. He's also made progress in his submission game, and is armed with a strong guillotine choke. Sayers works hard off his back were he's shown quick hip escapes, but will need to continue working on his BJJ, takedown defense (which played a pivotal role in his loss to Tat Romero) and wrestling abilities.
Sayers is an aggressive striker whose willingness and approach to his standup is commendable. A confident striker, Sayers isn't shy about letting his hands go and does incorporate a lot of flying knees and high kicks into his striking repertoire. He shows good potential in his clinch game, latching on to the thai plum and firing off big knees from in close. Sayers doesn't show any apprehension on his feet and will press forward looking to engage. Still very early his career however, Sayers is quite raw. Defensively he has a tendency to get sloppy and his overall offensive and defensive technical skills will require work.
