Cole Konrad is a former collegiate wrestling champion and an up and coming fighter in the world of mixed martial arts. While attending college, Konrad wrestled at 285 pounds and is definitely a "new age" heavyweight who possesses enormous size - even fighting at heavyweight. Throughout his amateur wrestling career Konrad achieved incredible success and enters mixed martial arts as one of the top pure wrestlers in the division. Among his many accomplishments he was a two-time National Champion in high school, a four-time NCAA Division I All-American, a three-time Division I finalist, and a two time NCAA Division I Wrestling Champion while at the University of Minnesota. In addition to his collegiate achievements, Konrad has also found success on the international stage including winning a gold medal at the 2005 Pan-American Games and a bronze medal at the 2006 World University Championships. Konrad's wrestling credentials are excellent and his skills are also quite diverse as he does have backgrounds in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling which only strengthen the belief that his skills will translate to MMA. After making the decision to try his hand at mixed martial arts, Konrad joined the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy where he serves as a regular training partner to UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar. Konrad might not be as explosive a wrestler as some in the sport, but make no mistake about it he is very adept at taking the fight to the ground. He's a big, strong wrestler who's shown he possesses very good takedowns - especially from inside the clinch. Konrad displays excellent control from top position where he shows good potential in his ground and pound abilities. He makes good use of both his elbows and punches on the ground, and works the body very nicely with his punching. Konrad is still very new to the sport and his standup game, submissions knowledge and jiu jitsu abilities are completely unknown, and how he develops those areas of his game will give a much better indication of what he'll be able to do in the sport.
