ANALYSIS
Christian Uflacker is a welterweight BJJ stylist currently signed to the Strikeforce roster. Uflacker was originally trained out of Rio de Janiero, but now makes his home in the United States training out of his own academy (Uflacker Academy) located just outside Chicago in Summit, Illionois.
An accomplished jiu jitsu practitioner in his home country, there is no mistaking what part of Uflacker's game is most effective and where he's most comfortable operating from. Among his awards he was a seven-time State BJJ Champion and a five-time National BJJ Champion in Brazil and earned his black belt under the very well respected Carlos Gracie Jr. Given his base it's not surprising that Uflacker aggressively looks to take the fight to the ground any time he gets. His number one priority is to take his opponent down and he will look to shoot for the takedown right away. He has a quick double leg and decent trips from in close, but he wouldn't currently be considered an overpowering wrestler by any stretch of the imagination. Recognizing the importance that takedowns will play in his future prospects in the sport, Ufacker has been working diligently on his wrestling in order to round out his grappling game and truly complement his BJJ and submission games. Uflacker does possess technically strong jiu jitsu skills once on the ground, displaying nice transitions and a composed, methodical ground game overall. He's a very patient ground fighter who bides his time well and will wait for openings to present themselves. Obviously Uflacker is well versed in submissions and does effectively use his punches and strikes to try and create opportunities for himself on the ground.
Through his first three professional fights we haven't seen much of Uflacker's standup at all. He is quick, moves well on his feet and maintains that he has been working on improving his muay thai game, although we've yet to see it put to use in MMA competition. Outside of throwing the odd leg kick or punch, his striking is unknown and remains a large question mark in his MMA arsenal going forward.

OUTLOOK
Christian Uflacker is a talented jiu jitsu practitioner, but will need to work on his striking and wrestling to truly round out his skill set. His bread and butter is his ground game and much of his success in the sport will hinge on how effective he will be at getting the fight to the ground, and for that reason he'll need to work diligently on his takedowns. He's very early in his career and there are plenty of unknown variables in his game, but Uflacker has a chance to develop into a competitive fighter in the welterweight division.
